Biology Notes, Evolution

Vocab

  • Vestigal Structures, They have little to no fuctions and can be left over from an organisms evelotuionary path. Examples are the human tail bone which was left over from when we had a tail and were not humans.
  • Homologous Structures, Similar structures in diffrent organisms that are diffrent in their shape or use. This suggest organisms evolved it for the same use but later evolved to be used in diffrent uses.
  • Analogous Structues, The oppisite from Homologous structures, Same Function but diffrent shape. Examples are wings on birds and wings on insects. Both are used to fly but are diffrent in shape or structure due to requiring diffrent things.
  • Biogeography, The study of were certain organisms are located.
  • Endemic Species, organisms that live only in one spesific region.
  • Embryology, The study of embryos of organisms. Similar embryos in different species could mean they decented from the same organism.
  • Biochemistry, The study of chemical processes in organism and its impact on evolution. You can analyze DNA and proteins to find a link between spesies
  • Vestigial Genes, Genes that have no use because they suck.
  • Pseudogenes, Genetic information that provide evidence for divergent evolution
  • Microevolution, The observation of quickly reproductive organism that die quickly. And example is observing a species of One generation that takes 2 weeks before the next is born and observing their evolution.
