SCRIPT
PART 1, The Caste System is a class system based on good and bad karma. When a person dies they get reincarnated in a class based on their karma. There are five levels starting at the lowest level and subsequently the least respected, the Dalits, then Shudras, Vaishyas, Kshatriyas, and the most respected, the Brahmins.
Part 2, The Caste system originated in South Asia as a result of the Aryan invasion of South Asia. The caste system was just one of the many tools used to control the native population of South Asia.
Part 3, Today the Caste system is prevalent in India and, to a lesser extent, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Part 4,
The Caste system has been the subject of great controversy due to the mistreatment of lower classes and outright criminal activity committed by higher classes. And is by some viewed as modern-day slave treatment of people. Despite that current trends show the Caste system only becoming stronger even in more urban areas.
It could take decades for the Caste system to degrade in its influence on hindu society. But that estimate could quickly change as the accelerating urban development and as such access to higher education, global culture, and influence of other countries create stronger opposition to the system.
Until then it is very likely we will continue to see crimes comited against those in lower classes.
